Bill 157 Passes Third Reading
On June 1, Bill 157, the Keep Our Kids Safe at School Act, 2009 passed Third Reading with the Liberals and NDP voting to support the bill and the PC MPPs voting against.
The bill requires school employees to report incidents of student violence and intervene when they witness inappropriate behavior and requires school principals to notify parents and guardians when their children are victims of violence. It does not take effect until February 1, 2010. In the meantime, the Ministry of Education will be developing policies and guidelines and drafting regulations to govern the new reporting requirements introduced through Bill 157.
